From Marie Lecrivain:
Last summer, I approached RD Armstrong about publishing my favorite prose poem: "The Painter."
I already had illustrations to accompany the poem from my lovely friend and poetic princess Aurora Antonovic. I believe Rainy's response was, "Sure. What the hell, I'll do it":)
Anyway, a few months later, I found myself, along with Aurora, the proud purveyor of what is now The Painter, a chapbook (50 in the Little Red Book Series) published by Lummox Press.
To whet your poetic appetite, here are a couple of excerpts from The Painter:
he deepens the shadow
between the orphaned waiter,
& the wealthy spinster
with five secret abortions
and
he leans forward to
whiten the brittle yearning
in the waiter's eyes
Here is what one poetry aficionado has to say:
"After reading Marie Lecrivain's The Painter, one may be forever
suspicious
about entering a room with an artist. Who knows if they'll
erase you with a few spur of the moment brush strokes. That's powerful
writing. The accompanying images are precise. You may want
to grow a moustache and move to 1923 after experiencing it."
– Rick Lupert, publisher Poetry Super Highway
I never properly hawked this little red gem, because it came on the heels of my other book, Nihilistic Foibles, and because, as a writer, editor, and publisher, I'm usually busy representing other people's work.
Anyway, I have more than a few copies for sale. I've very proud of this book. It's the first time I collaborated with another poet, which is irrefutable proof that I can actually play well with others. And, six bucks ($5 + $1 shipping), is a modest sum. And, if I can appeal to your philanthropic side, for every copy I sell, $1 will be donated to John Tracy Clinic, a facility that offers free audiological, educational, and counseling services to deaf children and their families.
If you would like to purchase a copy of The Painter, please email me through MySpace , or at marie@poeticdiversity.org and I'll send you all the relevant information.
Abiento!
