Magnapoets is pleased to announce its 2011 Pushcart Prize nominations. Details here.
December 20, 2011
Magnapoets issue 9 should be available no later than January 15, 2012. You can get a look at the cover, photographed by Don McCrady, here.
November 10, 2011
Pushcart Prize nominees must be selected and postmarked by December 1st, so believe me when I say, I'm scurrying to finalize my selections. The problem is that each small press is only allowed to make six nominations, and I've only been able to short list down to twenty-six! Decisions are hard because we've published two anthologies and doubled the size of our magazine, which gave us lots of quality poetry from which to choose. Couple that with the fact that the poetry submissions of late have been top-notch and, well, we've got a problem. Within the next week or two, I'll notify the nominees of my selections, and then post them on our main site (www.magnapoets.com ) by the end of December. They'll also be published in our print magazine's January 2012 issue.
November 7, 2011
Magnapoets Pushcart Prize nominations will be named by December 31, 2011 on our website.
November 1, 2011
Submissions are now closed to the January 2012 issue of Magnapoets. We received a record number of submissions this issue. Please be patient as I read through each and every one of them. If you've sent work in and don't hear back from us by November 15th, contact us at Magnapoets AT Gmail DOT com.
October 2, 2011
Swamped with high quality submissions for the upcoming (January 2012) issue of Magnapoets. Submissions are open til the end of the month. Hate to say it, but our rejection rate will be high simply because of the volume of work and shortage of space. Please be understanding if I don't get back to you right away. The volume of submissions are overwhelming, and I'm busy with a ton of personal projects.
September 20, 2011
Submissions are now open til October 31st, 2011, for the special feature section of Magnapoets' January 2012 issue. The theme is "Self Portrait". Be sure to label your submission "Special Feature" . Details here.

An interesting article from The New York Times: Literary Journals Thrive, on Paper and Otherwise
September 13, 2011
Magnapoets issue 8 has been mailed. Subscribers and contributors should receive their copies shortly.
As of today, we have officially sold out of issue 8.
Subscription rates will be increasing significantly due to a rise in paper, mailing costs, magazine size increase, and printer costs.
While we did manage to find a new printer for issue 8, that was only a short-term solution. We're still looking for a printer to handle issue 9, so the submission period (October 1-31) may be delayed. I'll post updates here as soon as more information becomes available.
September 7, 2011
Magnapoets issue 8 will be mailed by Monday, September 12, 2011. Thank you for your patience.
August 17, 2011
Scrap the previous post. After promising the corrected issues would arrive in the early part of the August 8th week, the printer finally admitted he didn't print the corrected copies, nor will he. He has promised a refund, but since he hasn't kept his word thus far, I'm looking for another printer. Will update as soon as I find one. We WILL get this corrected, and apologize for the delay.
August 4, 2011
We think we've found the problem - and the solution - to the printing errors in Magnapoets issue 8. We used more foreign language fonts in this issue than in previous issues, and some of these fonts appeared for the first time in our publication. As a result, some of our regular symbols (quotation marks) were mis-read by the printer and translated into something else. We've had to manually embed each foreign language font into our file, and our latest test copy suggests the problem has been resolved. If the problem really has been resolved, copies should arrive no later than early next week. I'll post updates as soon as they're available.
I also want to state that we work with a wonderful printer who worked hard to resolve this issue. Sometimes things don't always run smoothly, but it's great to work with someone who is willing to work towards a solution. Thanks to all of you for your patience and support.
July 26, 2011
Magnapoets issue 8 will be mailed out late. Printing problems persist. We have used the same program and the same printer that we have in the past, but for some reason problems persist with this issue. As soon as the printer rectifies the situation, and we have a target date for mailing, I'll post the announcement here. Apologies for the unforeseen delay.
July 17, 2011
A combination of a Canadian mail strike (which is still causing complications and delays even though the strike has been resolved) and a printing error, means that Magnapoets issue 8 won't be mailed out for another week or two. We expected the reprints to reach us 8 days ago, but the shipment still hasn't arrived. I'll update as soon as it arrives.
Also, some of you have told me that you've received mail returned to you with "Moved" stamped on it. We have NOT moved, and are at the same address we've been at since the beginning of Magnapoets. All I can put it down to is complications from the mail strike. If you've sent something our way and it was returned to you, please re-send.
June 16, 2011
Thanks to everyone who supported the anthologies project. Response was overwhelming. We are almost sold out of Butterfly Away's second printing. Only a few copies remain of Many Windows. If you want a copy of either reserved, drop me a line at Magnapoets AT Gmail DOT com. And by the way, the majority of people who are buying the anthologies are not in the books at all, nor are they related to our authors. Whoever thinks poetry is dead should check out Magnapoets supporters! :)
Some of you are wondering how we're going to manage getting copies out of our journal, as well as the anthologies, with Canada's mail strike going on. No problem with US or international orders. They can be shipped from the US (the beauty of living in a border city) but in-Canada orders might take a little longer. (So far, there have been no delays.) Receiving mail, however, is super slow, so if you've order a copy of something and not received it yet, or want to order something, let me know via email (again, Magnapoets AT Gmail DOT com).
Our July issue is 102 pages - 2 pages over what we expected it to be. I'll be spending the next week printing up labels and sorting envelopes while we're at the printers.
Subscription prices remain the same for 2012. While we appreciate those who are enthusiastically subsribing for 2, 3, and even 5 years at a time, please bear in mind that we're taking this on an issue-by-issue basis, and prefer to do no more than a one-year subscription at a time. We're going onto our seventh year as an on-line presence, and our fifth year in print, something I didn't foresee when I started this as a fun, side project. I have plans to publish books by individual authors in upcoming years, and am toying around with a few other print projects. As soon as I know more, I'll let you know. :)
June 11, 2011
Magnapoets print journal's July 2011 issue is formatted and will be off to the proof reader's tonight. If you are a subscriber or contributor, expect your copy no later than July 31st regardless of what part of the world you're in. Submissions for the January 2012 issue open from October 1-31st. We will be announcing a new feature for that on our features page July 1st, and that will be open from September 1 to October 31st.
June 7, 2011
Backordered copies of Butterfly Away should be here by next week. If you want a copy reserved from this batch, give us a shout at Magnapoets AT Gmail DOT com. Some copies remain of Many Windows.
We're on schedule for Magnapoets' July 2011 issue. Cover design should be complete in a few more days, and our contributors' names posted on the main page.
May 31, 2011
Submissions are now closed to Magnapoets' July 2011 issue. Subscribers and contributors should receive their copies no later than July 31st, regardless of what part of the world they're from.
May 30, 2011
Finalizing the July 2011 issue of Magnapoets. Still lots of submissions to go through. We've received over 4,000 submissions which, unfortunately, means there will be lots of rejection notices sent out. The submissions we've received are of the highest quality, but space limitations mean we can't possibly fit most of them in. Please understand there are so many different components that go into selecting submissions for a magazine issue - too many poems on one subject, too many poems that are similar to past works (writers repeating themselves), the aforementioned space limitations, how many pieces you've had published in the past (we want new writers to have chances, too) - will affect what gets selected and what won't. If you don't get into this issue, try the next. Sometimes, it really is a matter of not having enough space.
If you've submitted something and don't hear from me by June 3rd, please inquire at Magnapoets AT Gmail DOT com.
May 27, 2011
If you have ordered a copy of either Butterfly Away or Many Windows and haven't received it yet, please notify Aurora at Magnapoets AT Gmail DOT com right away. Butterfly Away is on backorder and Many Windows is almost sold out, but will go to a second printing if necessary.
May 18, 2011
Many Windows, the epiphanies-themed anthology that is fourth in our series, has been released. The title, Many Windows, was taken from a line in M. Kei's poem, found on page 36. Ordering information here.
May 16, 2011
Butterfly Away, the love-themed anthology that is third in our series, is almost sold out. We will go to a second printing, but it's going to take a few weeks for the new shipment to arrive. Please be patient with us.
May 5, 2011
Proofs for Many Windows, our epiphanies-themed anthology, have been approved today. We are aiming for a June 2011 release date.
April 30, 2011
Butterfly Away is ready for release! Ordering information can be found here.
April 29, 2011
Butterfly Away, the third book in Magnapoets' anthology collection, arrived today! Everyone who has seen it today has appropriately oohed and ahhed. :) We'll have pricing and ordering information tomorrow.
April 26, 2011
Butterfly Away should arrive from the printers no later than April 30th. We'll have a better idea of shipping costs by then, and will post an announcement about purchasing information as soon as we get a copy of the book weighed at the post office. Updates will be posted here.
April 5, 2011
Proofs have been approved. We now hope to have Butterfly Away released by April 30th, 2011. All updates will be posted here.
March 21, 2011
The proofs arrived today for Butterfly Away. The cover is gorgeous! Only problem is, two pages of font were incorrect, so now we're back to the printers. Errors like this are fairly common and expected, and we planned for them, so it looks like we'll still make our April 2011 target publication date.
March 11, 2011
Butterfly Away is going through first proofing at the printer's. That means it should reach us in two weeks for our proofing. So far, the April target date is holding.
March 5, 2011
Butterfly Away is now at the printer's. It is a slow and tedious process from here, because we do proofs via postal mail. That's to ensure that the hard copy is exactly the way that we want it. We are still aiming for an April 2011 release date. Many Windows should have a summer 2011 release date.
February 21, 2011
The cover for Butterfly Away is now finalized. You can have a look at it here. The cover image was provided by and © Samantha L. Aide Photography ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/samidoodle ), all rights reserved. No unauthorized use or distribution. And a gentle reminder to readers please not to copy images from our site. Photographers and artists are very generous in letting us use their work to further and enhance our projects. Let's show them the proper respect by not making copies of these images without permission. If you'd like to mention the anthologies, please link back to the antholgies' page.
February 20, 2011
We're still waiting to hear back from the photographer of Butterfly Away (our love anthology). Everything else is finalized for Many Windows (our epiphanies anthology). We're looking at a release date of April 2011 for Butterfly Away, and June 2011 for Many Windows.
February 11, 2011
PhotoInterview did an interview with Lars Van De Goor, the very talented photographer whose work graced our January 2011 issue. You can read the exchange, and see more of his work, here.
February 7, 2011
A title has been chosen for Magnapoets' fourth installment in the anthology series. Many Windows was named after a line in one of M. Kei's poems. Both manuscripts are currently at the proof reader's. Butterfly Away will be released in spring 2011, and Many Windows is looking for a summer 2011 release date. Cover details are still being finalized on both volumes. More information will be posted here as the projects progress.
February 3, 2011
Magnapoets' third installment in the anthology series, Butterfly Away, is near finalization. The title was chosen from a phrase in one of Sanford Goldstein's tanka, and as a result, he'll receive a complimentary copy of the anthology. I'm still working on the cover. The book should go to the printer's in about another week or so, and be ready for an April 4th release date. It will be approximately 100 pages, cover included.
A full list of contributors' names appears here.
The epiphanies anthology is nearly completed. A title has yet to be selected. It will be approximately 75 pages. I'm aiming for a June/July 2011 publication date.
All updates will be posted on this page, and on the anthologies' page.
January 27, 2011
If you are a subscriber or contributor to Magnapoets, issue 7, January 2011, and have not received your copy of the magazine, let us know as soon as possible at Magnapoets AT Gmail DOT com. We are almost completely sold out of this issue, and want to be sure that everyone receives his/her copy.

January 9, 2011
The love anthology will be the next book released in our anthologies series project. We are aiming for a spring 2011 release date. A title will be selected from a line in one of the book's featured poems, just like the last two anthologies. As soon as we've made our selection, we'll announce it here and on the anthologies' page. The poet whose poem inspired the title will receive a complimentary copy of the anthology.
January 2, 2011

Just twenty-six copies remain of the second printing of Magnapoets January 2011, issue 7. This is the fastest we've ever sold out of an issue since we began as a print publication. If demand is great enough, we will go to a third printing, but not until after the holidays.
December 23, 2010
Magnapoets January 2011 issue has been mailed. Contributors and subscribers should expect their copies no later than January 15th, regardless what part of the world they live in. It is very important you let us know if your copy doesn't reach you by then, because quantities are severely limited. We've gone to second printing already, simply by pre-orders, and many are ordering multiple copies. If demand is great enough, we will go to a third printing, but it will take approximately a month or longer, so if you want a copy now, it's best to let us know ASAP at magnapoets AT Gmail DOT com .

Submissions are still open to the Proust Questinnaire, which will be made into a special supplemental booklet to accompany the July 2011 issue of Magnapoets journal. It's purspose is threefold: 1.) To have a little fun, 2.) To get to know each other a little better, and 3.) The Proust Questionnaire is a powerful writing prompt. Your answers can be as serious or light-hearted as you'd like. If you'd like to omit any of the questions, feel free to do so. Details here.

Submissions are now open to two new themed anthologies. All forms of poetry are accepted. Details here.
August 27, 2010
Just a reminder that our guidelines state specifically that we give one complimentary copy of our magazine per contributor, not per poem. No one does that. In fact, most publications don't even give contributors' copies anymore.
August 18, 2010
Readers are buzzing about our Proust Questionnaire feature, which is open to everyone who wants to take part, whether you have been published in Magnapoets before or not. While Marcel Proust did not invent the quiz, he did take part in it twice himself. You can see his answers here.
Send your answers to Magnapoets AT Gmail DOT com and we'll do our best to include as many as possible in a special July 2011 supplemental feature.
August 5, 2010
In response to the queries we've had about the Proust Questionnaire: 1.) Is it open to everyone? Yes. The Proust Questionnaire is something poets and readers alike can take part in, if they desire. 2.) Do all the questions have to be answered? No. You can leave out any questions you'd like. This is not something that's mandatory. It's supposed to be fun. 3.) Where do I find the questions? You can find them here. 4.) How do I get my answers to you? Send them to Magnapoets AT Gmail DOT com. 5.) What will happen to my answers? They will be assembled into a supplemental booklet to be included in the July 2011 issue of Magnapoets.
August 3, 2010

March 6, 2010
Magnapoets print journal is bringing back the three-line bio. We did away with it after issue 1 in order to have more room for pure poetry, but our readers want to know more about our poets. Therefore, if you have work accepted for issue 6, be sure to send in a three-line bio for our back pages. We're also going to extend the size of our journal without raising the cost one bit. Subscribers and supporters have been good to us and we want to return that favour with a little more poetry and some interactive pages.
Now that the blogs have closed, be sure to watch for former Magnapoets bloggers appearing on our print pages in various capacities. Some will crop up as special features editors, others will figure promminently as columnists. I am very, very excited to introduce our new interactive features beginning with the July issue of Magnapoets. I think both readers and contributors will be pleased with what we've cooked up.
February 16, 2010
Magnapoets has been reviewed by New Pages. Reviews appear alphabetically, so scroll down to the "M" section to read our review.
February 8, 2010
Our next issue of Magnapoets (July 2010) will contain a small supplemental section of recommended poetry books. If you'd like to send in a recommendation, send the book's title, a three-line or less blurb about the book (optional), and ordering information in the body of an email to Magnapoets AT Gmail DOT com.
January 28, 2010
Poetry blogs are like eyeliner on men - so 2004. So after five years of poetry blogging, Magnapoets blogs will be closing on March 5, 2010, and a new interactive form of poetry communication will take place.
We toyed with the idea of starting a Facebook page, or a twitter account, but let's face it: Facebook and Twitter are going the way of MySpace and the dinosaurs. Since we're always looking for something fresh and innovative to keep poets inspired and communicating with their audiences, we decided to begin a series of interactive, print supplements to our magazie, beginning with the next issue.
I've already sent out invitations to our first supplement, but the second one will be open to everyone. We'll make the announcement in issue 6 with all the details. The few with whom I've shared specifics are pretty excited about the project and can hardly wait for it to begin. I'll give but one hint. It will be reminiscent of Magna-on-Magna Poet's Speak, which was our popular, interactive 5-question interview between poets, but with a twist. :) And that's all I'll say for now.
Please remember that our next submmission period doesn't start til May 1-31, 2010. We're all pretty busy with work, family, friends, and our own writing projects, and it can be pretty time consuming to weed through submissions to send a reminder that we're not reading yet. I know there are lots of poetry journals out there and it can be hard to keep everyone's guidelines straight, but they're plainly on our site, and following them makes things easier for everyone.
Until our next update, I wish you lots of good poetry.
Aurora Antonovic
Editor-in-Chief, Magnapoets
