change . . .

late autumn trees

half full half empty

[published in a somewhat different form at haiku du jour]

I'm feeling optimistic today, so they're half full. :) Nice observation, Bill.

Enjoyed.

Don't know what the original was but this works. I hung up slightly on 'late'..wondering if all the leaves wouldn't be gone by then but looked out the window and see oaks still hanging onto many leaves.

Cool observation.

Thanks for the comments.

Kirsty, this started life as a senryu about climate change. In late autumn in New York and New England (where I spent Thanksgiving), the trees should not be half full. It's evolved into a haiku about mindfulness of change and the ambivalence that goes with it, but I hope that the first intention is still present at some level for some readers.
