Day Like A Flower

We took the day like a flower
we had freshly picked,
inhaled its sweetness

while its dew was still fresh enough to give shine
to our faces, and joy to our hearts;

We gently touched each petal with reverence
until it opened to bid us bury ourselves
in its intoxicating new scent, and lose ourselves in its wonder,
as long as it lasted

You ask me where I’ve been all morning,
That you have frantically been trying to
Get a hold of me,
That you need some work from me,
