Looks like we figured out the problems with Magnapoets 8. Since we're an international magazine, we often run poetry and articles either in part, or in whole, in a language other than English. In this issue, we had the most foreign-language poetry, quotes, or simply names, written in another language with letters that weren't recognized by the general method of embedding. After lots of prayer and brain wracking, we realized we needed to embed each foreign language separately. The first test copy was a success, so we're hoping the final run will be, too. We'll find out early next week when the shipment arrives. From that point, it should take us approximately 2 days to get them in the post to our readers.
I've been asked to contribute a chapter to a book that's being written about my parents, and just thinking about how I'm going to approach it is bringing up a lot of memories. I've had a great deal of fun discussing the chapter with my brothers and sisters. I come from a large family, and the first 5 of my siblings are old enough to be my parents. That certainly helps me with fact-checking, because some of the incidents I'm writing about happened when I was only 2 or 3 years old. (I can't believe how far back my memory goes.) For example, I was working on an excerpt about how early my father taught me to take the stage, and I was sure I was 3 1/2-close-to-4 years old. My older siblings were able to prove to me that I was only 2 1/2 when that took place. It's also interesting to see how differently we remember some incidents. For example, we can all agree upon the facts regarding some incidents (dates, times, locations), but we don't all agree upon whether those incidents were happy/relaxing/sad/stressful, or whether or not Aunt So-and-So was there. Kind of interesting to see what different perspectives lend.
